The fine folks over at Tennessee Bloggers For Education have been asking us to spread the word about their program for a while. And what a great program it is. Head on over to their donation page and look at all the ways we can help local teachers.

Last Saturday approximately 75 technophiles descended on Chattanooga for the “unconference” conference, BarCamp Chatt. We (Knoxify’s founding fathers, Brandon Clarke and Casey Peters) had the opportunity to sit on a hyperlocal blogging panel with the fine folks from Nashvillest, Chattarati, and The Terminal. We found out that Knoxville isn’t all that different from its neighboring cities.

So with all the bad news lately, it seems that “everything’s amazing, but nobody’s happy.” Well, Triathlon superstar and Knoxvillian Eric Bell, has some good news from Down Under. Dream Big, EB and keep sending the updates! See you soon, the Dogwood Mile awaits its leader’s return

Look no farther than the middle column of our site to find the inside scoop on our neighbors, Chattanooga and Nashville.

We have partnered with Chattarati, a Chattanooga blog with a touch of narcissism, and the Nashvillest, a Music City blog, to bring you the latest news and opinions from Middle and Southeast Tennessee.

Just like Knoxify, both the ‘Ratis and the ‘Villests are showing their readers what makes their cities great. Don’t be shy, make a new friend or two today.

Hey Wigshoppers, Knoxify found your sticker. We spotted one on August 31st Downtown. Where should we pick up our prize, yo?

Yesterday, July 16th, Knoxify hit a new milestone: 104 RSS subscribers!

When we launched this blog in December of ’06 we never expected such a warm welcome from the Knoxville community. So, from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU!

The entire Knoxville blogosphere will continue to grow with great readers like you. Now go treat yourself to some ice cream.

In case you forgot what RSS means, read this.

Really Simply Syndication

When I meet Knoxify readers, I often ask if they’re an RSS subscriber. Surprisingly, the most common response is a confused face.

To shed some light on RSS feeds and subscriptions, I have provided a step-by-step tutorial below so that you can learn how to easily follow all of your favorite Knoxville blogs.

This may be very elementary to a few folks but remember that this was written for someone who has never heard of RSS before.

Welcome to Knoxville

My del.icio.us bookmark roll has been growing rapidly with new Knoxville blog’s. Either I’ve been hiding under a rock and haven’t noticed these places or more Knoxvillian’s are signing on. Here are a few of my recent discoveries.

 • Tabloid Boy: Larry Van Guilder of the Shopper-News covers local politics and “other oddities”.
 • RadDevon: Devon N. Campbell writes about politics to Apple to “Buy Nothing Day”.
 • Chris D. Knight: A Jefferson County blogger, Chris enjoys “being in the technology scene”.
 • The Road Home to Tennessee: Marsha Loftis covers a variety of topics. But most importantly, her about page lets you know she’s looking for a job. Anyone got an opening?
 • Cloudy Day: Emma Chace is a UT student majoring in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism. I stop by her blog everyday because it’s that good.

Bonus: A few additions to the list.

Know of any other Knoxville blog’s I should be reading?

TDOT SmartFIX40

Before the I-40 Downtown bottleneck gets better, it’s only going to get worse. TDOT has outlined the entire project on their site and are even providing high-tech web cameras to publicize the progress.

To help better answer the question, “what the heck is going on with I-40″, Don Jacobs of the News Sentinel has launched his Navigating SmartFIX40 blog. Don writes:

To help drivers and the community better understand the most expensive highway project in the state’s history, I am fielding questions about the SmartFIX40 project that for 14 months will change the way people get around Knoxville.

If you don’t make it over there today, you’ll have 14 months to visit it later.
