When Suzy asked our new-business-themed Friday question on February 5th we didn’t know what would hit our comment section. By the end of the day we had heard Knoxville loud and clear: bring Trader Joe’s to Knoxvegas!
Of the 39 responses to our question, 19 commenters asked for a Trader Joe’s — a whopping 49% of you! According to their website, the closest TJ’s to Knoxville is located in Roswell, GA.

Given the recent buzz about a national chain possibly landing in Downtown Knoxville, we thought today’s question was fitting. On a side note, one of the most popular posts here at Knoxify was/is a retail rumor.

On Tuesday, December 1st from 6 – 9 p.m. in the Square Room at Café 4 — that would be tomorrow — the Social Media Club Knoxville will hold their Winter Panel which is titled “Social Media Liability, Ethics & Policy”. In layman terms: how not to get sued for using social media. Hey, it happens. If you’re interested please RSVP here.

January 2010 will mark the fourth anniversary of ownership for my car. It will also mark my introduction to Lee and Jena of Sun Matic Control who I’ve been doing business with for about the same time frame.

To build the Panama Canal was to move heaven and earth: to bring 360 ft of elevation of the Cordillera Central, the continental divide, down to sea canal; to push through 48 miles of jungle and rivers; to overcome diseases medical science did not understand; and to replace the 27,500 men who died of these diseases to continue building all so a ship from New York could travel 6,000 miles to San Francisco, instead of 14,000. No wonder Theodore Roosevelt considered it the greatest feat of his presidency, and many more consider it the greatest engineering achievement of all time.

Not that this preppy city boy is looking to get some ink, but…

One of the first questions I asked my friends and neighbors after purchasing a new home was, “Who do you use for pest control?” Wow! Talk about an array of answers.
Some wanted an Exterminator with environment-friendly products. Others didn’t care. Some didn’t want a contractual agreement. Others just wanted their pesky rodents dealt with.
As I prepare for my first pest control appointment today, I want to know:
Which Knoxville pest control company do you use for your home and why?

I’m always amazed when other people are amazed that Knoxville has something they didn’t expect — really good locally-owned restaurants, unique music, an organic art scene, cozy, tree-lined neighborhoods, a lively downtown – to name just a few things that come immediately to mind. In fact, Knoxville has all these things and more, if you’re willing to open your eyes and explore.
