You've GOT to hike at Seven Islands. It's right off the French Broad River. It is my favorite place to hike.

I agree, House Mountain is great, however, it is not in Halls, it's closer to Gibbs. It is in Corryton on Hogskin Rd., which is approx 14 miles from Halls. The overlook is over the beautiful Corryton community. Lots of pics from my recent hike there: http://tinyurl.com/knoxtrivia

As far as close proximity goes, you can't beat House Mountain. Located in Halls, a twenty minute drive from downtown Knoxville is all it takes to get to what may be the best urban hiking area in the country.

It features a couple miles of trails along with two really nice overlooks, one facing south, the other overlooking Halls.

Here's a shot of a friend and me from overlook that faces Halls.

I prefer the hikes that remain fairly empty. I went to Spence Field via the Anthony Creek trail last year, and it stands out as a favorite. Bet its beautiful up there right now.

I agree with bc knoxify. Leconte is choice. Personlly, I would take the path less traveled to any of the beautiful balds to view a crowded Cades Cove from up above.
