Guide to West Hills

Where is West Hills?

Right in the heart of West Knoxville, right across Kingston Pike from West Town Mall. West Hills is easily accessible by Kingston Pike, Middlebrook Pike and the I-40 West Town exit.

West Hills Information

West Hills is an established mid-century neighborhood with a strong sense of community. The West Hills Community Association has been going strong for over 30 years and its members continue to work to protect the the quality of life of all West Hills residents.

Living in West Hills is good if you’re into retail therapy: it’s located less than a mile from West Town Mall and all of it’s surrounding stores, including Borders, Old Navy, Kohl’s and Bed, Bath and Beyond. For grocery shopping, try the Food City off of Morrel Rd or the Bearden Kroger on Kingston Pike.

Once you’re done shopping, you can go home to play. The West Hills YMCA is located just on the edge of the West Hills neighborhood on N. Winston Rd, within walking distance of many homes. If outdoor activity is more your style, The West Hills Park is also located just off of N. Winston Rd and includes the 1.9 mile Jean Teague Greenway.

Hungry West Hills residents have no shortage of restaurant choices. Knoxville mainstays Copper Cellar and Cappucinos are close by and are always good bets. If you’re in the mood for something with a more international flair, you can try Stir Fry Cafe Tomo Japansese Restaurant.

West Hills is currently zoned for Bearden High School, Bearden Middle School and West Hills Elementary School. West Hills Elementary is actually located in the bounds of the neighborhood, right on Vanosdale Road.

You will totally dig West Hills if you’re looking for:

  • homes with character and a neighborhood with lots of trees
  • a neighborhood that is super close to tons of shopping
  • very close proximity to an elementary school
  • easy access to I-40
  • a community with its own park and YMCA

You’ll want to skip West Hills if you’re looking for:

  • something far away from a high traffic area (like West Town Mall)
  • a neighborhood with no chance of cut-through traffic
  • new or newer construction

What the Residents Say

  • "Good schools, location (close to work, close to downtown), nice yards with mature trees, value." - Bill & Gay Lyons
  • "One great thing about West Hills is the wonderful, friendly neighbors we have all around. The lady next door mowed my front yard one day while mowing hers, everyone speaks and waves, and I love the active neighborhood association. The convenient location is another huge plus for us. We're now about 5-10 minutes from 80-90% of the things we do on a regular basis, i.e. public library, bookstore, health club, West Town Mall." - Jim Lee
