Where is North Hills?
In North Knoxville between Old North Knox and Fountain City, North Hills is bordered by Cecil Avenue to the south, Whittle Springs Road to the west, Washington Pike to the north and Prosser Road to the east. It is easily accessible by the I-40 or I-640 Broadway exits. North Hills is very convenient to downtown and a brief drive down Broadway will get you to Gay Street, Market Square or the Old City is no time flat. It’s also a short drive to Fountain City and the Knoxville Center (East Town) Mall area.
North Hills Information
North Hills was developed in the late 1920s, and at that time was one of the largest communities in Knoxville, covering 185 acres. It was also considered one of the most prominent and several famous Knoxvillians, including Cas Walker and Patricia Neal, have called North Hills home. The area features many charming homes with unique architectural styles, including Tudor, Spanish Eclectic, and Colonial Revival.
North Hills is quite walkable and the neighborhood is defined by its main thoroughfare, North Hills Boulevard, which has a large, tree-lined median. Residents can also take a stroll on the .4 mile North Hills Greenway or just laze the day away in North Hills Park, which features picnic tables, a playground and a gazebo.
North Hills is also a great place for gardeners. The North Hills Gardening Club, which was formed in 1935, is still alive and kicking, and is responsible for planting many of the numerous trees and flowers found throughout the neighborhood.
Hungry North Hills residents have a lot of options, being so close to downtown, Fountain City, and Knoxville Center Mall. If they’d like to stay a little closer to home, they can go a little ways up Broadway to a colorful Mexican joint called Senor Taco, home to what may be Knoxville’s only salsa bar.
North Hills is currently zoned for Belle Morris Elementary School, Whittle Springs Middle School, and Fulton High School, home to the 3 time state champion Fulton Falcons football team.

Senor Taco is the best! We’ll be doing an article on it at the Wigshop soon. But ST is really in the Edgewood/Emoriland neighborhood (another one you guys should review sometime). You guys are amiss to not mention FATS BBQ at the intersection of Washington Pike and Whittle Springs. It could technically qualify as being in North Hills and has great food.
@CK: I need to check out Senor Taco and FATS BBQ. Both sound delicious.
Also check out Mrs Goodstuff at Fairmont and Fairway. Small family run corner cafe in the middle of a great neighborhood. Food is delicious.
I used to live on Foutain park blvd. in North Hills, what a wonderful place, peace and quite, fantastic homes and landscaping and loved walking the dog in the blvd.
@CK I just ate at FATS last weekend! I had passed by it several times, but never tried it. Thanks for the tip!
