Light Bulb

With Brandon on the road burning up wedding season, we aren’t able to bring you a video blog today for the Friday question like we wanted. So, here it is in old fashioned text.

Over the past year, which Knoxvillian has went above and beyond the call of duty to inspire innovation, foster creativity and serve as a community leader?

On Set

As we reported yesterday, we’re all geared up to take on video blogging. However, during a conversation last night with Brandon, we realized we were short on topics other than the Knoxified Friday Question.

So, we’re looking for you to tell us what topics you’d like to see. But more importantly, where should we video blog from? Should we call Rob & Big for guest appearances to make our videos more entertaining?

What say you?

KnoxTube Invades Knoxify

22 Apr 2008 In: Knoxify News

KnoxTube Banner

For those of you that have visited the site within the past couple of days, you’ve probably noticed some flashy graphics dancing around in our sidebar. It’s an advertisement for the beta site, KnoxTube.com.

You’re probably thinking “Ahh man. Are you guys selling out?” Well, yes and no.

Yes, because we’re running an ad. That’s a simple one, right? No, because running the ad secured the Knoxify guys an exclusive video blog kit from KnoxTube. Cool, huh?

Now that we’re armed with a Flip Video Ultra recorder and a tripod, we’ll begin video blogging right here on Knoxify.com. We’re not that ugly so this should be a fun experiment that doesn’t break any camera’s.

Welcome to Knoxville

My del.icio.us bookmark roll has been growing rapidly with new Knoxville blog’s. Either I’ve been hiding under a rock and haven’t noticed these places or more Knoxvillian’s are signing on. Here are a few of my recent discoveries.

  • Tabloid Boy: Larry Van Guilder of the Shopper-News covers local politics and “other oddities”.
  • RadDevon: Devon N. Campbell writes about politics to Apple to “Buy Nothing Day”.
  • Chris D. Knight: A Jefferson County blogger, Chris enjoys “being in the technology scene”.
  • The Road Home to Tennessee: Marsha Loftis covers a variety of topics. But most importantly, her about page lets you know she’s looking for a job. Anyone got an opening?
  • Cloudy Day: Emma Chace is a UT student majoring in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism. I stop by her blog everyday because it’s that good.

Bonus: A few additions to the list.

Know of any other Knoxville blog’s I should be reading?

No Friday Question

18 Apr 2008 In: Knoxify News, Questions

Sorry folks, no question today. The Knoxified crew has a lot going on these days but we’ll return next week for another installment.

Home Office

From the porch I’m standing on, Knoxville appears to be sprouting in the right direction. Especially in the venture and entrepreneur sector.

For those in this type of market, are you working from home or maybe renting a small office? Where do you meet with your clients? Coffee shops? Restaurants?

The reason I ask is because I feel there’s an empty void in Knoxville. A void that needs to be filled with a creative workspace. Examples of creative spaces here, here and here.

In your opinion, is Knoxville in need of a creative workspace like the examples above?

Coastal Connections Logo

A mid-evening stroll led my wife and I to Coastal Connections, a local seafood market specializing in Gulf Coast shrimp, fish, crawfish and oysters.

We were greeted by Brian, one of the operating partners, who let us sample the cajun fare; samples only since we were walking without cash or credit. The two small cups of seafood gumbo and crawfish etouffee left us hungry for more. All of their selections were fresh and ready to take home. Coastal Connections visit the Alabama and Florida coastline every week to bring home never-frozen fresh seafood.

But don’t take my word for it. Brian and the boys also wholesale to local favorites like Chesapeake’s and Calhoun’s.

What is Knoxify?

Knoxify is a blog camp dedicated to the good things in life. In a nutshell, we’re trying to better your life, our life and our communities. It just so happens we do this from our home base in Knoxville.

Knoxified Linkage

It appears that there is an upcoming blogfest.

"...I was shocked and appalled to see that a grove of trees, including a 100-plus year-old Ginkgo tree, have been ripped limb by limb from our honored and revered Hill at the expense of UT’s new Electrical Engineering building."

"In NASCAR, they call that door-banging racin'. And it is. See how the battle goes in your market."

"36.2 Million women participate in the blogosphere weekly"

"...downtown’s newfound popularity also means that there are more people for the panhandlers to target."

Suzy Trotta has the rundown on Knoxville homes hovering around the 7-figure mark.

Emergency LunchBox by Bob McClusky. According to the wigshop, it's a keeper.
