Guide to Holston Hills

Where is Holston Hills?

Right off of Asheville Highway and just 5 miles east of Downtown and the University of Tennessee campus. Holston Hills is easily accessible by both Asheville Highway and I-40.

Holston Hills Information

Named after the Holston river, which borders the neighborhood to the south and east, Holston Hills was originally developed in the 1920s conjunction with the Holston Hills Country Club. It is home to a Donald Ross designed golf course, which many golf aficionados consider to be the finest golf course in the state of Tennessee. The Holston Hills Country Club is still alive and well today, and in addition to golf, features tennis and swimming.

Holston Hills is a great place to live if you like greenery and architectural diversity. Built from the 1920s to the 1960s, Holston Hills has an eclectic mix of pre-stock crash estate homes, post-crash stone cottages, and post-war ranchers. Lots tend to be on the large side, and there is no shortage of old, large trees and rolling hills.

If Holston Hills residents get tired of golf and scenery, they can head a few miles west to the Knoxville Zoo, where more red pandas have been born than any other zoo in the Western Hemisphere. The Knoxville Zoo is also home to a wide variety of other animals, from African Elephants to East Tennessee Black Bears.

Hungry Holston Hills residents who don’t want to hit the country club can head west for some down-home country cookin’ at The Country Table or east for some down-home country and Italian cookin’ at the original Puleo’s Grille off of Strawberry Plains.

Holston Hills is currently zoned for Sunnyview Primary School, Chilhowee Intermediate School, Carter Middle School, and Carter High School.

You will totally dig Holston Hills if you’re looking for:

  • a very scenic, yet quite affordable community
  • something close to a country club and golf course
  • something with a laid-back vibe that’s a little off the beaten path
  • a home with lots of character
  • easy access to Downtown Knoxville or UT

You’ll want to skip Holston Hills if you’re looking for:

  • a neighborhood with very flat yards
  • new or newer construction
  • close proximity to mall shopping
