Our second Knox County Commissioner 1-A hopeful is Cynthia Stancil.
1. Introduce yourself to Knoxville, who are you, and why are you running?
My name is Cynthia Stancil. I am 46 years old. I live in the heart of District 1, in Parkridge, with my husband John. I work in the construction industry as a sales representative for Gerdau Ameristeel.
I am running for the District1 commission seat because I believe that the citizens of District 1 deserve a representative who will work for the entire district. District 1 is a very diverse district including everything from Fort Sanders all the way out to Holston Hills. It also includes areas of Fourth and Gill and Mechanicsville.
What I have heard from the citizens is that they all have the same desires. They want great schools, safe neighborhoods, ethical and fiscal responsibility with their money and appropriate development that will enhance the district not further blight it.
This is what I will work to bring home to our district.
2. We think it’s better knowing what not to do rather than having an extensive plan. What areas or interests would benefit Knox County not to venture into?
We think it’s better knowing what not to do rather than having an extensive plan. What areas or interests would benefit Knox County not to venture into?
I believe that Knox County needs to get out of the business of doing “business as usual”. The catastrophic result is the mess that we have seen unfolding before us since last January. Common wisdom will tell you that doing the same thing repeatedly will never produce a different end result. We need change. We need fresh thinking and ideas. We need uncompromised persons filling the positions available so that Knox County may move forward and deliver a future to Knox County that will sustain us as a county, a city and vibrant exciting community.
3. What 5 things could you not live without?
First and foremost, my husband, John, he is my best friend and constant companion. Second, the humbling and loving support of our friends in all that we do. Third, the love and support of our families. Fourth, service to people, whether that be community service or through my job. I believe that only through giving to others will you find ever find happiness for yourself. Fifth, on a lighter note, a really great cup of hot black coffee first thing in the morning!
