On Saturday, April 16, the Historic Homes of Knoxville is hosting two bus tours of some of Knoxville’s oldest and grandest homes. The Historic Homes of Knoxville is a partnership that shares resources from each historic site in presenting the history, culture, and heritage of Knoxville and East Tennessee. An official event of the Dogwood Arts Festival, it’s a great way to learn more about Knoxville’s rich history.
Tour features:
- $20 (plus $3.15 in fees) per person/per tour – make reservations by calling 865-523-7521 or www.KnoxTix.com.
- Free parking at stopping points.
- Tour guide to discuss points of history and interest.
- Stops at each historic tour (and enough time to tour the home, grounds, & gardens).
- Proceeds go to marketing and promotion of the Historic Homes of Knoxville.
AM Tour (9am-12pm): Begins at Blount Mansion, 200 W. Hill Avenue and includes visits to Mabry-Hazen House and Crescent Bend House & Gardens.
PM Tour (1pm-4pm): Begins at James White’s Fort, 205 E. Hill Avenue and includes visits to Ramsey House Plantation and Marble Springs Historic Farmstead.
Fun Facts:
- The original owner of Crescent Bend – Drury Paine Armstrong – paid just over $5,000 for the property in 1834.
- The Mabry-Hazen House served as HQ for confederate and union soldiers during the Civil War.
- James White received the plot (1,000 acres) for his fort from the government for his service in the Revolutionary War.
