With my recent enrollment into Introduction Knoxville, questions have been brewing in my mind as I learn more about the vivid history of Knoxville. In an effort to seek answers, I’m going to post an unreciprocated question every Friday. I anxiously hope the comment section fills with well-informed answers. Off we go.
Why does Knoxville not have a free recycling pick-up program?
If you have a question you’d like to ask, feel free to give us a shout.

Kingsport does it. Why can’t we?
They were actually way ahead of the curve when they tried it many years ago. Quite naturally, it wasn’t well-implemented, green living wasn’t the rule like it’s become today, and the resulting utilization was not successful enough to justify the expense in the city’s eye. I wish someone would try it again because the mindset now would probably make it wildly successful. I say that because before she died, my 80-some odd Nana had become avid about recycling.
I was just talking with my friend who works for the city about this the other day. It’s so aggravating. I would even pay for curb-side pick up. Also, why are no apartment complexes required to have recycling bins available?

Lauren, I believe that you can pay for pick-up but I’m not 100% sure on that. As for your apartment statement, I completely agree.
