While driving along Northshore one day this week, we noticed purple boxes hanging from some of the trees. It looked like some sort of birdhouse without the hole cut out. We noticed most of them between the Concord and Harvey stretch on Northshore. Anyone have the scoop on these tree ornaments?

They are insect traps…see story.

Interesting. Thanks for the info.
Emerald ash borer bait boxes, to see if they have spread into the area.
If you exit I-40 at Campbell Station Rd and head north (toward Hardin Valley) you can spot about a dozen of them as you come down the other side of the ridge.

There’re also a lot of the purple boxes in East Knox County.

First rule of purple boxes is you do not talk about purple boxes.
I am so glad they are doing something about the insects. They are just as bad as kudsu. (did I spell that correctly?)
