Admittedly, I am no expert on green living and all the latest ways to save the planet. However, I did discover something at Target this weekend that I think might help save the planet as well as save you some money on your next shopping trip. You can kill two birds with one stone…great for shoppers and great for landfills (although CouponKatie does not condone the killing of any birds).
I was checking out with some dog food when the cashier asked me if I wanted a bag. I said, “No that’s okay.” She smiled, scanned a barcode on her register and said, “Great, I can take 5 cents off.”
What? A way to save money at Target and I didn’t know about it? Granted, 5 cents is not a lot of money, but it was the principle of the whole idea that I like. I soon found out this “bag coupon” is part of Target’s recycling program.
For every bag you bring in (cloth or reused plastic Target bags), Target will take 5 cents off your total when you check out. Isn’t that wonderful!?!? The stacks of bags I have can now be used for something other than lining bathroom trash cans.
I may not be the most green person around, but I certainly will be on the look out for more “green ideas” that can cut down my monthly grocery budget.

We use a vinegar solution and baking soda (NOT together!) to clean. Also, we have dramatically cut down on our paper towel usage by using dish towels to do most of the wiping up around the kitchen.
Green AND Thrifty!
I bring my old Trader Joe’s bags to Target.
Hi! Got to leave it to Target to keep shaking things up!
